A Nightmare On Elm Street

Politics, elections, proportional representation, yadda yadda yadda…

Let’s lighten things up shall we? Let’s talk about a child sex killer who gets burnt to death, and then haunts his former prey, slashing them to bits in their dreams, shall we?

That’s right, Freddy Kruger’s back. Again. The remake/re-boot/’re-imagining’ of A Nightmare On Elm Street is here and there’s not a damned thing you can do about it. Apart from watch it (or ignore it).

Before we start, let’s just imagine that Frederick Krudger were real. Wouldn’t he just be the Daily Mail’s ultimate wet dream? Not only is our man a paedophile, he is also quite possiblly an immigrant paedophile (check out his surname…). The worst kind, eh Daily Mail?!

Slashing The Seats was granted access to the exclusive premiere of the film last night in London’s glitzy West End, walking down the red carpet and mixing with such stars and luminaries as Sir Anthony Hopkins, George Clooney and Dame Helen Mirren.

Movie adaptations – how should authors feel?

Since the movie came out, Watchmen creator Alan Moore is primarily known for two things. His prodigious beard, and his general moodiness. It’s not surprising that many fans were disappointed when he said that he would be “spitting venom all over” the big-budget Hollywood adaptation. If you know that the genius, the creator himself despises the director’s interpretation, it makes it pretty hard to love the film when you do eventually see it. Similarly, compare Warren Ellis’ reluctance to sign-off on a Transmetropolitan movie.

Superman-Returns-Movie-1-1152x864

Since Iron Man, Spider-Man and The Dark Knight reminded them how succesful comic book movies could be, and with Thor girding his hammer for battle, rubbish-but-marketable X-Man gambit getting a spin-off and Green Lantern about to throw his ring into the…erm…ring.. Hollywood is nutso for capes right now.

Unfortunately they don’t usually get it right, leaving us clutching our popcorn in horror as Catwoman craps all over our fanboy dreams. Luckily, STS is on the case, so here’s a list of characters ripe for the big screen treatment, and a few studios shouldn’t touch with a Kryptonite bargepole!

NewsGush: Online Buzz For Hornet Costume

get-your-first-look-at-the-green-hornet-costume--800-75

For some unknown reason, people seem quite excited by the thought of Seth Rogen playing “worst-superhero-ever-apart-from-the-steel-spider” The Green Hornet, so it’s with some fervour that these production pics of the costume have leaked out.

Rogen himself has reportedly seriously slimmed down for the role, but it’s unclear whether that’s him dolled out like a doorman at a hotel for Leprechauns. Either way, the production has been busy dropping bulldozers onto traffic and blowing things up in LA this month, so it’s possible there’s hope yet.

What do you think? Does the post-Watchmen return of non-powered capes to our screens warrant an air-punching “Yesssss!!!” or a nonchalent “meh”?

We Watched The Watchmen

Recently I’ve seen a lot of people on the tube in the morning with copies of Watchmen, eyes darting and brows sweating, as they desperately try to finish it before the movie goes on national release. The trouble with Watchmen is, even if, like me, you have a massive stash of comic books bagged and boxed in your attic, and a decent knowledge of American post-war political history, you are still going to have to read the thing slowly, 2 or 3 times, before you really get it. There is A LOT going on in that thing.
