STS watches a lot of movies. Seriously, an unhealthy amount. You probably think we do this because we love film and love talking about it right? Well..yeah..I mean cool old films like Ghosbusters sure..but new movies?
Well since there’s no way of telling in advance if it’s any good or not, we tend to go on early buzz and how much free shit the studio will throw at us. Generally speaking, the higher the number of Jonny Depp bobble heads arriving on your doorstep, the worse the film. So based on these exacting criteria-how does Prince of Persia stack up?
As any fule ‘know, videogame adaptations are always amazing works of creative genius. Uwe Boll alone racking up over 5000 Oscars* in the past 3 years alone thanks to his amazing pieces of filmic art. And while it’ll be hard to top Uwe’s attempts to resusitate Christian Slater’s career, you can’t blame young filmakers like Mike Newell (apparently his last movie was a little-known, contemplative meditation on the trials of a boy wizard…) from hungering after some of that delicious award season glory, and hey, with Prince of Persia, he may just manage it!**
