NewsGush: Nice Beaver!

Unfortunately not a tribute to the late, much lamented Leslie Nielson, this is the new trailer for Mel Gibson’s ucoming nutjobbery The Beaver.

Frankly it’s pretty much Gibson’s perfect role, art reflecting life as a once-loved successful dude goes off the rails. Of course, in real life the erstwhile Mad Max can’t rely on the psychological attentions of a hand puppet with a voice like Ray Winstone (well, he could, but that would be fucking mental).

We haven’t quite decided if this is the best or most ludicrous thing we’ve ever seen (and less ye forget, we’ve seen O.C & Stiggs), but what the hell, we won’t begrudge a washed up alcoholic with anger control issues a fair chance round here – if we did we’d have no staff left.

The Best: Of-Irish-Descent Actors!

Ho-de-ho-ho, if it isn’t being Saint Patrick’s day ya bloody bollocks, and as a special service to our ‘Of-Irish-Descent’ readers, its time for a patronising article that has bugger all to do with Ireland (and in no way increase our readership by being blatantly confrontational and obnoxious obviously).

Time to pick up a green plastic bowler hat (just like they had in the old country that neither you nor anyone you know has ever been to), fill it with dyed green cheap whiskey (because that’s what a true Irishman would obviously do) and check out the best, definitely, positively, Of-Irish-Descent oh-yes-sir-honestly actors!

Ya feckin’ eejit.

Review: Edge Of Darkness

While Mel Gibson is starting to look more like a crinkle-cut chip than an action hero these days, Casino Royale director Martin Campbell is obviously having a ball jumping him through hoops, redirecting his classic BBC series with explosive aplomb. It seems lessons learnt from Bond have been packed in, so while there is believable motivation and characterisation here, the film benefits immensely from the lack of filler that stretched and slowed the TV version – occasionally with amusing side effects if you’re familiar with the original. There’s no time here for Gibbo to sit about watching TV or crying on the hard shoulder here. Not when there are mysteries to be solved and exposition TO BE SHOUTED.

NewsGush: Hardy+Theron For Mad Max IV?

Mad Tom

Rumblings in the outback today; and if E! Online is to be believed, they could just be the sound of a Mark IV Interceptor revving up – quite possibly with Ex-Captain Picard Tom Hardy behind the wheel.

George Miller is certainly gearing up for a fourth crack at the Road Warrior, and with Gibson apparently too old or too rich to return as Max Rockatanski, Hardy – who’s brutal turn in Bronson may have caught the director’s eye – is set to fill the post-apocalyptic biker boots –with female support from one Charlize Theron.

While her acting chops may not match Hardy’s, Theron certainly looked good in AEON Flux leather and is apparently the Happy Feet Helmer’s first choice for female lead, although whether this will be a sequel or yet another reboot remains a mystery.

What’s your opinion? Should Gibson return to the role that made him famous, could new blood reignite the franchise-or should it be left well alone?
