Italy may be the spritual home of the video nasty, but there’s been a sad downward trend for years now, masters like Argento paddling increasingly ridiculous and hackneyed, non sensical tripe. So it’s with a wary eye that we approach Shadow – currently being hyped as ‘The Renaissance of Italian Horror’.

One for the rimmers in the audience, as director Tom Six bypasses any notions of horror in the traditional sense, and goes straight for the gag reflex with a tale of unnecessary surgery that’s “100% Medically Accurate!”

Indeed, FrightFest’s Alan Jones actually tells the audience they’ll need therapy after watching this, perhaps forgetting that laughter is the best medicine…
