Oh dear oh dear. Remember Ghost Rider? Rubbish wasn’t it? A badly CGI’d Nic Cage rolling about and taking down crappy MTV villains while comedy Hammer Horror mist floated about and Sam Neill did lots of expositional mumbling. Bloody awful. In it’s favour though, it was undeniably fun. Cage and the crew obviously realising the sheer stupidity of the material and the script and just rolling with it, adding a charm that made it far more enjoyable than it had any right to be. Suffice to say, Jonah Hex leaves its sense of humour at the door….
This time of year, everybody likes to take a break somewhere hot and sunny – although following a man who used to get naked and kill people, not to mention occasionally drinking their blood around a war-torn hellhole where families are often left with no choice but to bed down in used graves isn’t everyone’s ideal vacation – but doing this type of thing is what makes VICE magazine so gosh-darned hot, sexy, and interesting to know isn’t it?
2009 saw VICE founder Shane Smith and adventurous editor Andy Capper heading to Liberian capital Monrovia and hooking up with Joshua Blahyi – the aforementioned “General Butt Naked” , famous for running an army with a unique uniform: Shoes….and that’s it. As well as spending time in jails, brothels and heroin dens as they investigate the aftermath of 14 years of civil war – and incredibly, making the whole thing thoroughly entertaining!
