Wow, the hype from Tron: Legacy sure died down quickly didn’t it? For the record, we thought it was pretty awesome, if a bit talky -read our review here -but Disney certainly aren’t the type of company to let FIVE YEARS of extreme social marketing go to waste, as shown by this leaked preview from the upcoming Blu-Ray release of Tron: Legacy. Taking place right after the film’s closing credits, the short revives the Flynn Lives meme and drops a few ‘Clu’s (see what we did there, damn, we should be on TV) about possible sequel storylines.

What do you think, are you up for more Tron, or are you all pixelled out?

Far be it from us to make any ‘hammer time’ jokes at this point, but Thor really is shaping up to be our favourite movie of the year. God only knows if Brannagh can make any of this seem even remotely realistic, but to be honest who gives a shit? Giants, hammers, an eight foot tall killer space robot and Natalie Portman. That’s how you make a movie my friends!

Yet more superheroics on STS today, as Thor and Cap are joined by the less well-regarded (at least, inside the Marvel Universe) mutant heroes The X-Men. Here’s the first trailer for upcoming X-Men: First Class (we covered it before, but frankly got a bit distracted by a certain ex-MadMen star..), and it looks -not nearly as bad as we’d thought.

Sure the uniforms are dorky, but have enough 60s flair that they feel real enough, and Magneto’s younger cape/buckethead combo really does resemble his 60s comic counterpart -as does the storyline. Longtime comic fans will recall that the X-Men first encounter the deadly master of magnetism as he invades a missile base…

Whether or not this will work sans a certain razor-clawed mutton chopped killing machine remains to be seen, but based on this it could be some fun classic era espionage action.

Slashing The Seats knows bugger-all about sport, but this Sunday’s Superbowl between.. oh, I don’t know, the Arizona Mongooses and the New York Serengeti Gazelles… did cough up a few interesting bits and pieces. Not, unfortunately another Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction (although we did notice that Christina agulera missed out a whole verse of a certain national anthem -top work there Chris), but rather a bunch of trailers for this summers biggest movies!
While Pirates of the carribean 4 made a strong showing, STS is way more dorky than you, so here’s some new sneak peeks at Marvel’s mighty Avengers -Thor and old wingnut himself -Cdaptain America!

These days Pixar movies often sum up everything that’s missing from Disney’s mainstream releases – plot, characters you can root for, a distinct lack of songs about dreaming/the pain of being Miley Cyrus.

It’s Christmas! And, try as we might, we couldn’t quite shoehorn in an article about Cliff Richard movies, so instead, here’s a classic Yuletide tale narrated by one of STS’s very favourite people – the always dour, but never non-festive Werner Herzog.

Over the past year Slashing The Seats has watched about 8000 movies (and even got round to reviewing a few of them), some good, some bad, some ‘Whip It!’. Last year we wrote a full-on end of year review (at least, i think we did, I spent my NYE drinking whisky and crying under the kitchen table, so anything is possible), but who’s got time for that kind of thing -I’m a busy man!

Instead, here’s your entire 2010 year-in-the-movies-in-review-thing…in under three minutes. Turns out most of the year was narrated by Michael Cira. Oh, you poor, soon to be outmoded hipsters you.

So, looks like Hugh Jackman’s latest ‘Real Steel’ has a trailer then. Jackman will be playing a meatsack who trains giant rock ‘em sock ‘em robots to punch each other’s lights out, eventually facing off against the unstoppable ‘Collosus’. Why is he unstoppable? Well, I can’t imagine it will be anything like the extraordinarily similar short story by Peter F. Hamilton, and turn out that there’s a human brain inside the robot or anything.

We haven’t mentioned much about it, mainly because everything Michael Bay has ever done has been complete and utter wank, but apparently those fucking awful Transformers films did quite well. So well in fact that there’s a third helping of robo-shite about to be heaped onto steaming cinema screens everywhere. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Anyway, here’s the first trailer for Transformers: Dark of the moon, wherein we find out that Hasbro’s favourite son’s (and daughters -can’t forget the fashionably pink Arcee after all) have been lurking about on the moon for years. For some reason…

Unfortunately not a tribute to the late, much lamented Leslie Nielson, this is the new trailer for Mel Gibson’s ucoming nutjobbery The Beaver.

Frankly it’s pretty much Gibson’s perfect role, art reflecting life as a once-loved successful dude goes off the rails. Of course, in real life the erstwhile Mad Max can’t rely on the psychological attentions of a hand puppet with a voice like Ray Winstone (well, he could, but that would be fucking mental).

We haven’t quite decided if this is the best or most ludicrous thing we’ve ever seen (and less ye forget, we’ve seen O.C & Stiggs), but what the hell, we won’t begrudge a washed up alcoholic with anger control issues a fair chance round here – if we did we’d have no staff left.

Yet more lovely TRON:Legacy stuff from Disney ahead of this Thursday’s IMAX preview screenings – time for a trailer thats harder, better, faster and longer….

Tired of driving that clapped out Ford Rocket-submarine you got back in ‘82? Maybe it’s time to consider an upgrade…possibly to something like: The S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier!

Once MArvel get’s done with Thor and Captain America, those two bstions of four colour freedom are set to team up with Iron Man to fight ‘a threat no single super hero could vanquish’ in Joss Wheedon’s The Avengers. Marvel’s super-secret S.H.I.E.L.D organisation (led by the one-eyed Samual L. Jackson, will also have a major part to play as the hero’s ‘handlers’, which means they’ll need a pretty nifty base of operations -seen here in this leaked design by movie artist George Hull.

it’s Friday. so what better way to kick off the weekend than some..erm…doom-laden, muffled electronica. Yet more TRON:Legacy coolness in the form of Daft Punk’s awesome soundtrack. Here’s a picture of the be-helmeted boys in some blue tracksuits as well – and they say French people are stylish….

Unfortunately it’s in glorious head-in-way vision, but who cares – here’s your first peak at next years frozen creepout fest – The Thing Prequel. Not many details are forthcoming regarding the exact plot this update/reboot/pre-boot to John Carpenter’s ‘82 classic will take, but so far but we do know it’ll feature Norwegians (or ‘Crazy Swedes’ if you prefer) giant blocks of ice, dynamite, flame-throwers and of course, gigantic exploding spider-head beasts from beyond the stars!

Once all the Imax-induced vertigo had passed, the common consensus round these here parts was that mega-blockbuster Avatar was..well, yeah, it was all right I suppose, if you like Dances With wolves and exploding helicopter gunships.

With that in mind it’s fair to say that the upcoming DVD extended cut had better be going some if it wants to stop audiences topping themselves half way through, especially given the three hour-plus running time and feature spread across three seperate disks. Amazingly though, this sounds like it might actually be worth getting.

Not only is it (of course) a piece of cinematic history (whether it’s a good or a bad one remains to be seen), but the film itself has some pretty groovy additions, including a screwed-up future planet Earth (looking an awful lot like Las Vegas for some reason) full of neon and breath masks, which gives a good insight into exactly a marine might prefer the deadly jungles of Pandora to returning home.

Anyhho, Big Jimbo’s latest is out on November 16th in the US, and will be available to steal on Pirate Bay four hours later.

With the night’s already drawing in, it’s time to turn our eyes forward to the winter holidays, and around here that means one thing: Hallowe’en.
Generally speaking we’re a bunch of pantywaists down at STS towers, but if there’s one thing guaranteed to stop us hiding behind the sofa and get us out and about on the spoooookiest night of the year, it’s the promise of some classic head-off-shoulders-catches-fire-turns-dogs-inside-out John Capenter action, so we were especially pleased when the marvelous chaps at top discount website vouchercodes.co.uk and Most Wanted got in touch to tell us about their new all hallows eve promo.
For one night only, it seems they’ll be taking over a fancy-schmancy central London location, laying on booze and popcorn and showing at least one of the above classic horror flicks – but which one?

Well, that’s up to us see – It’s one a’dem crazy ‘bloggers choice’ award things! Huzzah -finally someone respects our opinion! This despite the fact that I nominated ‘The sasquatch Gang’ for Oscar glory last year.

While freddy, Leatherface and even dear old Satan himself all have there attractive points, we have to say that nothing scares like the thought that your friend, your lover, or heck -even you, could at any point turn into a hideous multi-mandibled star-beast hell bent on wiping out mankind!!

Of course, we’ve been wrong before. What do you think? Is The Shining scarier? Does ‘Dawn Of The Dead’ put the willies up you in a way that ‘The Thing’ never will?

Even though the 3D version made us feel a bit sick, we were still happy to receive the new trailer for Disney’s take on the Rapunzel legend -Tangled.

It looks like a fun, fast and modern toon and there’s some lush animation to back up the decent looking script. it also stars Mandy Moore, who we’re contractually obliged to mention as often as possible.

Clint Eastwood can usually be relied on to deliver some gravitas and cultural nous with each successive release, although judging by the latest promo for his new supernatural drama ‘Hereafter’, he may be about to jump the shark and head off into M.Night Shymalan territory.

Still, Matt Damon is always good value and despite the over-keen use of Photoshop’s grey filter and bizarre Londoners sporting Yorkshire accents second act (not to mention a tube explosion -possibly a touch too sensitive for some) we’re reserving judgement for the moment.

Remember when you were young and horror movies were actually allowed to be weird and scary? Of course you don’t, we deliberately pitch this blog at 7 year olds. Still, if you consider your self a cinematic gourmand (and that doesn’t mean ordering nachos with extra electric cheese) then you may have more than a passing familiarity with Robin Hardy, and his leading man du jour Christopher Lee.

The pair teamed up way, way back in 68, and the naked Britt Ekland filled result was the fantastic, timelessly creepy The Wicker Man.

Unfortunately Hollywood couldn’t leave well enough alone and decided to improve on the concept by… erm… torturing Nic Cage with some bees… ahem, anyway, as if to show them that no one does really, really fucking odd quite like the Brits, Hardy and Lee have coalesced once more and the result is – The Wicker Tree.

Based on the brand new trailer above god only knows what it’s about, but early news hints that we can expect more apple-fuelled child murder, with more than a hint of evangelical christianity butting heads with the ‘hey lets all get wasted and shag on the golf course’ pagan gods that informed the truly odd original.

Is it too much to ask for Count Dracula to don a dress once more? Probably, but there does at least seem to be plenty of shouting, so we can but hope.

As the cult of ass-to-mouth surrounding vile but slightly boring schocker The Human Centipede continues to grow, it was only a matter of time before someone figured out how to make it even more fucked up and off putting than it already was, and hey, while the original was pretty diabolical, it was also pretty, well boring really.

Luckily if there’s one thing garuanteed to spice up a party, it’s a huge pair of hooters, so take a bow The Human Sexipede!

Yep, it’s a porn parody that gives doggy style a whole new meaning if this trailer is anything to go by.

I’ll be honest with you, I’m actually a bit weirded out by this. Enjoy perverts, enjoy…

After it’s debut at last weekend’s comicon, there was some major buzz about Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming take on Marvel’s resident god of thunder, The Mighty Thor, and based on this sizzle reel it isn’t hard to see why. Dealing in bright, bold colours and explosive action, Branagh seems to have nailed the cod-shakesperian dialogue and borderline campy tone that characterised the classic comics.

Whether (or should that be ‘weather’?) or not Thor’s powers will match those of his in-print incarnation remains to be seen, but so far it looks as though we’ll be in for an overblown cross between Henry IV and Flash Gordon. That can’t be bad can it?

Hammer Time!

Ahead of this weekend’s San Diego Comicon, Marvel has decided to sneak out some images from upcoming superheroic blockbusters Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger – and they look pretty awesome!
Previously released screenshots show Thor is staying fairly close to his current Earth 616 look (wiki it non-fanboys!), and it’s pleasing to see that his half-brother Loki, the Norse god of mischief, will be keeping his iconic horned helmet on the big screen.

Cap meanwhile get’s a more realistic chainmail-free look obviously based on his appearance in the company’s ‘Ultimates’ comics line. The Ultimates has already proven a rich seam for Marvel’s movie division, influencing everything from Iron Man’s beard to The Hulk’s helicopter drop, meaning we can hopefully expect a surprisingly grim, if over the top take on the star spangled avenger.

Clips and Pics from upcoming offworld-actioner Predators are ten a penny on the net this month, but this clip courtesy of BDTV bought back such fond memories of a childhood spent shouting ‘This stuff’ll make you a godammn sexual tyrannosaur’ that we had to show it.

An almost shot-for-shot recreation of the original movie as Adrian Brody’s mercs encounter the multi-mandibled hunter-killer for the first time, we also get to catch a glimpse of a very special cinematic weapon – yep, Old Painless is back!

The arrival of a new Harry Potter movie is always cause celebre round at STS towers, partly because we are entirely staffed by illegally imported child labourers, and partly because I quite closely resemble Voldemort.

Anyway -the new Deathly Hallows trailer hit the web today, and it seems that Harry is still more than capable of seeing off the hordes of Twihards despite his advancing years.

Continuing the series’ now trademark descent into ever darker territory, the trailer hints that many of the books more whimsical elements will still find their way onto the screen, while the outstanding effects work promises a truly awesome final showdown with he who shall not be named.

As someone who actually makes something I laughingly refer to as a living from memes, apps, tools and general online doodads, I’ve been awaiting the Facebook movie ‘The Social Network’ with some trepidation, mainly because it will mean one of two things;
A:Tons of gibbering chimpos will watch it, hear the numbers being bandied around and set themselves up as ‘Social Media Gurus’ on Twitter, meaning it’ll be even harder for me to get a gig. Or
B:Tons of gibbering chimpos will watch it, and realise that what I do for a living isn’t actually that hard, I’ve just been fooling people into paying me over the odds.

Whatever, this new trailer has just pooped up over at www.500millionfriends.com, and it looks like the history of Monsiour Zuckerburg and his all-pervasive ivy league yearbook is going for the tense, courtroom drama angle. How tense you can get with Justin Timberlake as your leading man is up for debate, but will it hold Facebook’s creators up as heros -or point them out for ridicule?

More to the point -does anyone really give a shit about watching a college boy in a hoody make several billion dollars because people love to poke, farm and off each other Mafia style at this point?

The Green Hornet already has a pretty jumpy production history, with rumours of the suits being none too pleased by the direction the Seth Rogen actioner was taking. Well, the first trailer just arrived on Apple, so now we can judge for ourselves. It’s certainly a mixed bag, the tone seems to suggest an odd mix of Rogen’s usual comedy butting heads with a much more serious Batman-esque actioner, although Gondry’s visuals and some of the effects are certainly striking.

What do you think? We’re reserving judgement for now, but could this be an all-out actioner with gags in the style of Die Hard, or is it too knowing and silly for it’s own good?

While it may turn out to be a diabolical Harry Potter-lite, STS have a soft spot for anything with Nic Cage being ridiculous (So..everything he’s ever done then…), and generally find that he follows in Bruce Willis’ footsteps – the quality of his movies being directly attributable to the ludicrousness of his hairpiece.
Well, in Disney’s new take on The Sorceror’s Apprentice, he’s wearing a hat for most of it, so we’re withholding judgement for the moment -still, the effects look nice! More as we get it…

Rapidly becoming our favourite movie of the year starring a talking potato (After Mickey Rourke in Iron Man 2 obviously), Toy Story 3 is shaping up to be even more fun than it’s predecessors, with plenty of laughs for kids, and plenty of chances for accompanying parents to side with the toys as they try desperatly to escape the clutches of their tiny tot jailers – will Woody be reunited with a college-bound Andy? Will Potato Head get his ‘tache back? Will Buzz learn to fly? Well…yes actually, at least according to this new video that snuck out from Disney’s vaults earlier today:

Proof, if ever it were needed, that reading Twilight: New Moon and watching the subsequent movie adaptation is EXTREMELY BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH.

Proof also that, if you want to kill a youth movement, all you have to do is have a local news team affectionately cover it.

Every now and then news comes our way of a concept so sky-high, so perfect in it’s conception, that the final product can’t possibly live up to the promise -hey, just look at Snakes on a Plane if you want proof – but the latest project from Stacey Sher and Michael Shamberg (the team behind Pulp Fiction, among others) just might break the cycle.

Zombie Beatles!

Yep, word has it that we’ll be following John as he zoms out Ringo, Paul and George and they embark on a worldwide brain-munching tour in the world’s first Zom-rom-musi-com (apart from Happiness of the Katikuri’s obviously…). And who can stop the fearsome four? Why the world’s best zombie hunters: Mick Jagger and Yoko Ono!

This sounds willfully idiotic and awesomely amazing in equal measure, and hey, it’s got to be more entertaining than any of Paul’s recent albums right?
