Newsgush: What To Watch On Your Summer Holidays

cliffrichard-6291

Hi Kids! Eternally young batchelor boy of pop Sir Cliff Richard* here, just taking a quick breather from churning out Christmas number 1 singles to let you know that hey! Summer Holidays are almost over, but there’s still time to cram some smashing movie experiences into the last couple of weeks!

It’s an extra long bank holiday weekend here in the UK – although there’s no reason our international readers shouldn’t take time out for some extra loafing about as well – and with so much to do in our nation’s glorious capital, it’s easy to get to confused, so, being the civil-minded pop idol and ever youthful charity tennis player I am, I climbed aboard my luxury double decker bus and toured the city to uncover some great events and compile a simple guide for you – why not check it out while I get back to praying and lurking about in the Shadows?

1: Midnight Movies.

7500819

Where? Friday 28th August at The Curzon Theatre, Piccadilly.

What? Although I’m always in bed by 9pm to help protect my youthful popstar looks, my top friends at STS tell me this is well worth staying up past your bedtime for! This time round there’s an ‘Adult Swim-a-thon’! I’m not that interested in swimming, I’m more of a Tennis man, but this will apparently showcase new content from the cable channel responsible for such classics as Metalocalypse, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, fellow 1960s escapees The Venture Brothers and..erm…Sealab 2020…

Tonight it’s an exclusive: Robot Chicken! With the European première of the new season. Seth Green will be attending (Via information super highway link-up), and there’ll be the usual DJs, Bands and the ever-popular free cocktails. I’m strictly teetotal, but it sounds like a crazy rock n roll party that you’d be absolutely bonkers to miss!

2:Frightfest!

Where? The Empire Cinema, Leicester Square, 27th to 31st August 2009.

What? The big one! Although my strict religious beliefs and non-stop tours of old people’s homes mean I can’t attend myself, this sounds like the kind of super spooky event that will mean there’s a ‘whole lotta shakin’ goin on’ in the audience.

STS say it’s a showcase for the very best of the international horror scene, with some smashing world premières and star guests – some almost as famous as me!

The Film 4 sponsored event moves up in the world this year, taking on extra screens to cram in more gore than ever before, and even though they won’t be showing my top pop movie Expresso Bongo, or the truly terrifying Plattenkuche, there will be some great shocks and thrills on offer including the new Blu-Ray mastering of American Werewolf in London, premières including Christopher Smith’s (Severence, Creep) salty sea tale Triangle, Marc Price’s £45 ‘Zombie movie with heart’, the Cannes-conquering Colin, the ‘Living Dolls’ of Vampire Girl vs frankenstein Girl, and the ‘Devil Women’ of..erm.. Zombie Women of Satan.

3:Secret Cinema

Where? A top secret outdoor location in London, September 6th 2009.

What? More closely guarded than my sexuality, Secret Cinema may have passed under your radar, and it’s no surprise. Every month a group of film enthusiasts puts on an event in London -where? Not telling.

Although this goes against my natural Christian impulses to be open and honest at all times, I know that if you sign up on the official site or become a facebook fan you’ll get emails giving you all the hot gossip and details-previous events have seen Ghostbusters take over an abandoned fire station, Skateboarders terrorising the audience during Paranoid Park, and my great pop star mates Anvil taking the stage at Shepherds Bush Empire after a screening of their very own movie The Story of Anvil.

Add to this spin-off Future Cinema (A huge Watchmen première under Tower Bridge) and you can that even though the organisers ‘don’t talk anymore’ (well..not that often…), it’ll still be a smashing evening out so why not -sign up now.

Hope that helps kids, I’m just off to play Sue Barker at tennis and promote Wired for Sound in Polynesia, so have fun watching those movies.
Buy my records!

Love,
