According to Variety, Ryan Reynolds has beaten off stiff competition from the likes of Bradley Cooper and… erm… Justin Timberlake to take the title role in the latest DC Comics franchise, Green Lantern.
For those not geeky enough to know, Reynolds will be donning the green and black tights and attempting to utter the words: “On blackest night, on brightest day, no evil shall escape my gaze” without giggling in summer 2011, playing a super-powered space cop armed with a magic ring that runs on willpower. With Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) slated to direct, we can expect some tip-top action sequences.
No news on story yet, but it’s understood that Reynolds will play classic 60s Lantern Hal Jordan (rather than 90s makeover Kyle Radner) and the film will feature outer space action with the Green Lantern corps.
