Hmm. I think the fundamental problem with the remake is that it’s Star Trek. Before, with the old Star Trek, it worked because the characters and ideas were old and hokey, but they were fine because Star Trek itself was old and hokey. By updating it they’ve basically tried to modernise and justify the hokeyness, which made the whole thing utterly transparent and dull as hell.

Like Scotty… shudder… it was ok with an old man shouting cliches because – awwww, bless him – he’s doing all he can with the material, but to see Simon Pegg running around with a bad accent is just embarrassing.

but…I like the old Trek films too-except the first one which was shite, and 5 which was rubbash, but I’m defending the Urban comment-he nails DeForest Kelly perfectly in this, and that’s the idea aint it? It’s like watsisface doing Shaggy in the Scooby Doo movie,perfectly captures the character-the fact that the character is a bag of crap is neither here nor there…

Are you fucking kidding me? That was a performance so bad it made Mark Whalberg in the Departed look like the master of subtlety.

I don’t understand these people cumming over Star Trek, like it’s suddenly been made cool again – it was exactly the same as the other 19 Star Trek films only they shook the camera around a bit more.

I went to see it on the understanding from reviews and filmgoers alike that this was some kind of brave new direction, but it was as utterly bollocks as the rest of them…

No, by pointing out the fact that this movie is on a seperate timeline (alternate universe) thanks to the Romulans traveling back in time and upsetting the course of events that could impact Uhura and her education thereby allowing her to be different to the TOS Uhura you would be a total geek.

One thing I did notice is that Ohura was shown as a linguistic pro. However later on…Star Trek 8 or something like that she was struggling to speak klingon. Tsk tsk, I am a total geek now aren’t I?
